Definitions

• Unlike the real meaning of mask which is used to hide the object underneath, a Mask in flash does just the opposite.
• A mask in Flash reveals the object underneath and conceals the rest of the area

Simple Masking

• Example
  
  
• Masking involves 2 layers
• 1st layer / top layer has the mask that will reveal something below. You can add animation to the mask like what i did
• In the 2nd Layer / bottom layer add a picture
• Thus the 2 layers will look like this:

• And the animation will be like this where the green oval is the mask
  
  
  
• Next, select the oval layer / top layer> Right Click > Mask
  
  
  
• Now the 2 layers' symbols will change
  
  Layer 2 is the Mask
  Layer 1 is the Masked
  
  
• Go to Control > Test Movie

Text Masking

• Example :

• This is same as the Simple Masking technique
• This time the top layer is the text and the bottom layer has the picture
  
• The animation without the text layer as the mask will look like this ( green text is the mask)
